Report of the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance (A/75/329)
The report addresses an increase in antisemitic incidents and conspiracy theories since the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The Special Rapporteur examines some of the ideology behind the manifestation of antisemitism, which overlaps with ideologies that have also resulted in an increase in anti-Asian and anti-Black racism, Islamophobia, and attacks on non-nationals in relation to the origin and propagation of COVID-19. The issue in focus is the rise of antisemitism and other forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance in the times of COVID-19. This includes human rights crises engendered by the pandemic, such as the ethnicisation of the pandemic and the racialisation of disease, state policy responses including public health responses, and the lack of disaggregated data. The report also summarizes submissions received from Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Germany, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Mauritius, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, and Switzerland.
