Populism & Racial Equality
Nationalist populism poses pressing dangers to human rights from a racial equality perspective. Nationalist populism is often associated with corruption, the weakening of checks and balances in systems of government, and the suppression of civil society. It can lead to the targeting – through rhetoric or the incitement to violence – of women, racially marginalized people, religious minorities, and other minority groups. Tendayi Achiume) and the underlying UNSR Racism’s thematic report.
