Race, Tech & Borders

Emerging Digital Technologies (EDTs) are being used by governments and non-State actors in the border and immigration contexts, in ways that are having xenophobic and racially discriminatory impacts on migrants, stateless persons, refugees, and other non-citizens. Here you can find materials bringing a human rights analysis to the racial justice implications of EDTs, including an Executive Summary (part of a series drawn from the thematic reports on global racial justice issues written by former UNSR Racism E. Tendayi Achiume), the underlying UNSR Racism’s thematic report, and a recording of “Race, Tech & Borders” which puts the UNSR Racism’s analysis in conversation with experts to assess the racially discriminatory uses of digital technologies in border and immigration enforcement at the U.S./Mexico border and in Europe.
